ABOUT JOHN & HIS FAMILY
John, and his wife, Sherrill, have lived in Calgary, Alberta for the past 30+ years, with the
exception of a 3-year stint in Newfoundland. They have two children; Eric works in one of Canada’s National Parks and Kara is employed in adventure tourism.
While a diagnosis of Parkinson Disease prompted an early retirement for John from a career as a geologist, it did not slow him down. With a motto of, “I have Parkinson’s, but Parkinson’s doesn’thaveme”, and a few adjustments, he carries on life with a renewed vigor and a heightened sense of adventure and exploration.
The Knight's always devoted family vacations to exploring Canada’s natural landscapes and parks, continuing the legacy that was passed down to them by their parents. Hiking, cross-country skiing or camping in the mountains created a love of the outdoors in their children, as evidenced by their individual career choices. Throughout their many adventures, John has carried his camera in hand; an interest now shared by his wife, son and daughter.
They have explored natural land and seascapes from the Queen Charlotte Islands in the west, to Newfoundland in Arizona. Their travels have also taken them across the Atlantic Ocean to the United Kingdom and Norway, and south to Costa Rica. Through work, John also travelled to South America, to the Mediterranean and Northern Africa, northern Europe and the Canadian Arctic.
With more time to enjoy travel in retirement, John’s continued exploration of Canada’s varied landscapes has resulted in the captivating images you find on these pages.
